MADIS WRF-Var Interface

Overview

By downloading and installing the MADIS WRF-Var interface, users of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) variational data assimilation package can ingest MADIS data from ESRL/GSD, or AWIPS data, into the WRF-Var analysis. The interface is a superset of the WRF-Var package, once it has been installed, users will be able to switch back and forth between the observation formats supported by the original package, and ESRL/GSD MADIS or AWIPS observations.

The MADIS WRF-Var interface supports the ingest of the following observation types: land surface (including ASOS, other METAR, Canadian SAO's, modernized NWS Cooperative Observer, and a large number of mesonets), maritime (including ships, buoys and C-MAN stations), GPSMET Integrated Precipitable Water, NOAA Profiler Network (NPN) winds, Multi-Agency Profiler (MAP) winds, automated aircraft, radiosonde, and GOES satellite winds (operational or experimental).
